In 2002, business partners Tim Langell and Joey Romano set out to open Vintage Tavern. Close friends since high school in New York, Tim & Joey moved down south and stumbled upon the up-and-coming Smyrna Market Village project. The project cemented in downtown Smyrna as a live, work, and play community, with emphasis on being easily accessible to the residents of Smyrna and very pedestrian-friendly. The owners decided the spot would be the perfect place to open a traditional New York tavern, and designed the tavern to perfectly match the historic, quaint aesthetic of the old suburban city of Smyrna.
In the two decades that Vintage Tavern has called Smyrna home, it has become a staple for locals who want a laid-back bar atmosphere paired with high-quality beverages and elevated tavern cuisine. Vintage is right in between its sister restaurants, Zucca Bar and Pizzeria and The Corner Taqueria which makes it the perfect addition to the Smyrna Market Village.
Although Vintage Tavern has changed quite a bit from the day it opened, growing and changing with the times, the bar’s unique antique flooring, bar top, and faces have stayed the same.
Vintage Tavern is truly a vintage bar – the materials used to build its gorgeous wooden bar and exquisite antique hardwood floors date back over a hundred years.
The hardwood flooring was pulled from a Smyrna home that was built in the 1800s. The home was scheduled for demolition, and the floor was reclaimed for future use. The flooring is made of genuine Heart Pine wood, which became extinct by the early 20th century and is only available today as a reclaimed wood product. The staff hopes that when patrons walk on these floors, they feel not only welcomed in the space but enjoy the beauty and history that was preserved.
Along with the flooring, the bar is the focal point of the establishment, and is truly a breathtaking piece of American history. When Langell and Romano set out to open Vintage Tavern, they had the goal of finding an antique bar with its own beautiful history. Luckily, they didn’t have to go far to find one. The bar was built around 1904 in Chicago where it was use for many years being deconstructed and shipped to Atlanta, where it was used in a downtown bar for over 40 years. When that space closed, the bar was again broken down, and put in storage to await a new life.
Fast forward to 2012 when it came time to outfit Vintage Tavern, the owners made sure the Vintage name remained true. The bar was restored to its original luster and has already been serving patrons for another two decades, with many more years to come. The bar gives the space character and charm you won’t find anywhere else.
Welcome to Vintage Tavern. We’re happy to have you here.
